Uchinanchu of the Year 2020

Joy & Kristen Murashige

Presenting mother and daughter dynamic duo Joy and Kristen Murashige, the Daughter/Granddaughter of Fred Sr. (Yomitan) and Betty (Aza Yogi) Higa.

Whether helping at our Annual Shinnen Enkai, working extra shifts at the Country Store for Okinawan Festival; or helping Uncle Warren Furuya (Corresponding Secretary) with the newsletter mailouts or t-shirt printing, they are always supporting our club.

Daughter Kristen works at HMSA and was our former Assistant Recording Secretary; instrumental in getting our Facebook page updated. She is also a talented illustrator and is working on a children’s book her close friend is writing.

Mom Joy is one half of a pair of twins and retired after working 34 years for the C&C of Honolulu DMV. Joy is a talented and generous crafter; sharing her crafts including donating 200 gift bags to our Yomitan guests arriving from Okinawa and donated hand-sewn prizes at the 2016 HUOA Senior Fair. Like her name, she brings Joy to those around her.

They both support Yomitan Club as a way to remember and honor their parents/grandparents and roots. Congratulations Joy and Kristen!
